Sea Turtles Threatened by Commerial Fishing

A study over a span of twenty years revealed that commercial fishing have killed sea turtles with numbers in the millions. These numbers do not include recreational fishing. Even though it was inadvertently, the gear from the boat is to blame. This study was published in the Conservation Letters on April 6 and the study was conducted from 1990 till 2008.
What makes this worse is that six out of seven sea turtle species are already vulnerable, endangered, and critically endangered. "Effective measures to reduce turtle bycatch include the use of circle hooks and fish bait in longline fisheries, and Turtle Excluder Devices (TEDs) in trawling," will help the population.

  1. We should do everything we can to save these sea turtles. Its not right that humans feel we can destroy an entire species, whos older than we are, just because they got in the way of commercial profit.
