new look at protein may lead to faster healing in bones

A group of scientist, of unknown university from the article, have found that an existing protein made by the body may help heal broken bones faster. The protein named Wnt has been know for some time but up to this point has been overlooked as the protein does not dissolve in water. Instead the group implanted an enhanced version of the protein into liposomes. This fatty material allowes testing on active animals and when injected into mice that had bones with holes the mice made bone faster than normal mice. Scientist are now looking into putting Wnt protein into fixing damaged heart muscle from stroke and damaged skin. If this works that means that in the future we can heal stroke and heart attack patients with out surgery.

  1. I found this interesting because it is nice to see researchers find new ways of treating patients and in a much easier way, especially when the ways they hope to use it are problems I've seen in relatives in past and even recent times.

  3. This is great! Imagine a protein so powerful that it can heal us from the inside, instead of getting dangerous surgeries that leave scars and require drilling screws into the body.
