Closer to Non Mammals Than We Think

http://www.livescience.com/animals/frog-genome-humans-100429.html

The African Clawed Bullfrog is more closely related to humans than once thought. After sequencing the frogs genome researchers found many unexpected similarities. In fact many non mammalian animals are closer to us than previously thought. When comparing species in the same region there were also surprising similarities. There seems to be a closer relation between all of them.

The frogs were seen to have similar genes that are associated with different diseases found in humans. This gives researchers a better opportunity to study and develop treatment for such. Frogs have already been used in pregnancy testing. When injected with a pregnant woman's urine a frog would ovulate and lay eggs within 8 - 10 hours. This newly procured knowledge of genetics will help us better understand our own.

  1. Who would have ever thought that a bullfrog could be so similar to us? It's neat to think we can better understand our own bodies by looking at the bodies of these bullfrogs.
