Muscle and Bone

This article brought out that Doctors have found that when people injure themselves, their muscles sometimes start forming into bone, instead of just repairing new muscle. There is also another disease in which connective tissue turns into bone. A specific university did research on this topic to find the reason for this. They found that it was caused by a specific neuropeptide in the brain, one that forms extraskeletal tissue.

There is a disease called heterotropic ossification, which causes abnormal bone growth. Patients that have this disease are in pain constantly and there is no way to get rid of it. Since they now know which area of the brain affects abnormal bone growth, they found that they can now create drugs that target that specific part of the brain, using their research from bone growth. Now, they could potentially come up with a therapy plan to treat the disease.

I found it interesting that scientists used their research in one area of the medical field to benefit another area in disease treatment.
