Fatty foods can trigger binge eating

According to science news, a study has been done that shows that fatty foods can trigger binge eating. Foods high in fat have the same trigger that marijuana does when it informs the body to keep eating. Scientists have come to the conclusion that if they can control this trigger then they would possibly be able to stop people from over eating and in turn, help with the obesity problem.

I feel that this would be a great step and in trying to help people who are overweight. There are many people who have an overeating problem that cannot be helped. It seems to be more of a compulsion than anything. The growing rate of obesity, especially in America is a horrifying reality. So if scientists could stop this trigger, then maybe many peoples lives could be saved.

  1. I thought this was a really interesting blog post, and could help explain why Americans are becoming so obese. With the low economy, more people are relying on cheap fast food which is really salty and fatty. People who want to lose weight should cook their own food and monitor what goes into it.

  2. This post is very interesting to me, as I have several obese family members along with many others who are overweight. It seems to be the normal thing in this family not to be concerned about the amount of fatty foods they are putting into their bodies on a regular basis. I think it is great to enjoy all different types of foods, but we need some balance of nutrient-rich food and exercise, as well.
I hope scientists find a way to eliminate that certain trigger in food, but I am doubtful because fast food just isn't fast food without the unhealthy ingredients. I feel that eliminating the trigger (making meals healthier) would lead to higher prices at restaurants, causing families to steer away from eating out in the first place. Ultimately, I would have to agree with the above comment and say that people need to focus on preparing their own balanced meals at home.
