In the book, Darwins Radio, a scientist has found evidence that shows that the "junk" DNA in people may be more than it seems, and it looks like he was right. Scientist Nitya Venkataraman and Alexander Colewhether along with their their group have found that a part in the human DNAs junk can actually produce retrocylin which is the protein that monkeys have to fight off AIDS. it seems that humans are also capable of making this protein but a mutation called a "nonsense" mutation has blocked the sequence. The pair of scientist did testing to see if the part of DNA, if reactivated, would fight off HIV in human cells would work and it seems it did. They used a compound called aminoglycosides to disrupts RNAs transcription into DNA which "activates" the junk DNA.
Now that is an experiment I would volenteer myself for. also imagin if they reawaken other parts of the DNA maybe we could be cancer resistent.
