Empathy & violence have similar circuits in the brain

The cerebral circuits of the brain that control aggression and violence is argued to overlap with the part that controls empathy; which would make these parts partially similar. "We all know that encouraging empathy has an inhibiting effect on violence, but this may not be a social question but also a biological one-stimulation of these neural circuits in one direction reduces their activity in the other." Researchers believe that this will bring about a reduction in conflict and belligerent acts.

  2. This is very interesting, and almost incredible. But it is intriguing to see that two different emotions can be brought about in the same area of the brain, and perhaps even the same way? would that mean that the body's reaction to said emotion (such as an increased heart rate when feeling angry) may be similar too?
