Study Links MicroRNA to Shut-Down of DNA-Repair Genes

Researchers at Ohio State University now shows that microRNA can silence genes that protect from mutations. These genes are also known as "mismatch repair genes" which when silenced promotes cancer and contributes to it. This microRNA (miR-155) overexpression might explain certain cases of cancer. They believe that their findings of miR-155 expression might be useful down the road in treatment of different cancers as well as diagnoses.
