Humans Have a Lot to Learn From Bonobos

http://www.livescience.com/animals/bonobos-sharing-bts-100423.html

Bonobos are often mistaken as Chimps or even monkeys at times. But the Bonobo is an ape that is very closely related to Humans. Bonobos have dark faces with pinks lips and have long black hair. Another difference they have from Chimps is their peaceful ways of dealing with problems. Bonobos are rarely violent and do not kill each other as Chimps often do. They use sexual activity as a way to maintain a calm peaceful relationship with each other. Chimps are male dominant, wage wars, and violent; Bonobos on the other hand are governed by females and peaceful.

A new trait of Bonobos observed recently is a tendency to share. As opposed to to Chimps who become increasingly more greedy with age, Bonobos remain generous. Bonobos were placed in a room with a door and food. The Bonobos along with young chimps would open the door to share the food with another. Older chimps though would not keeping the food for themselves.

  2. I thought this article was pretty interesting. It's amazing the differences between two animals that look very similar. I do find it funny that the Bonobos are governed by females and peaceful while Chimps are male dominant and violent.

  4. This shows that human nature doesn't always have to be defined as greedy and power driven. Sharing, open communication, and compassion should be the evolutionary traits we should be proud of and cultivate through example, rather than the idea of Social Darwinism which defines the argument for American imperialism.
