Ion-Selective Electrode Sensor

Who knew a little temporary smiley face tattoo could be so useful? The smiley face shown above is a medical sensor that attaches to the skin just like a temporary tattoo would. This medical sensor is made out of the same material that we use for temporary tattoos today. The medical sensor is a solid-contact ion-selective electrode and detects the change in the pH levels of your skin in response to metabolic stress from exertion. There are similar devices used by medical researchers and athletic trainers. This medical sensor will be easier for athletic trainers to use because it is so small and can get the same results as the similar ion-selective electrodes, but is smaller than the others. It can give clues to metabolic diseases such as Addison's disease, and also can tell whether an athlete is fatigued, or dehydrated during their training. The size of this ion-selective electrode is a lot easier than the others because of its accessibility and because of how small it is. Athletes using this medical sensor won't even know that the medical sensor tattoo is on while exercising. s
